Sara is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist. Sara earned her first baccalaureate degree in Military History from the United States Military Academy at West Point, which helped support her nine-year career in the military. After transitioning from the Army, she wanted to continue to serve her community as a mental health professional. She received her second baccalaureate degree in Psychology from Keiser University and her Maser’s degree in Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

Sara works with each client to address their individual needs and assists them in reaching their treatment goals. She believes that effective therapy is founded in developing a strong therapeutic relationship with her clients, built on the principles of respect, trust, autonomy, confidentiality, genuineness, empathy, openness and transparency. She takes a takes a multicultural, person-centered approach that acknowledges how marginalized viewpoints of groups have caused obstacles, limitations and restrictions increasing the risk for distress and mental health issues. Some of the counseling techniques she uses to help her best support her client’s individual needs are motivational interviewing, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), solution focused therapy, positive and strength based, mindfulness, and play therapy with children or developmentally appropriate individuals. Sara has worked in several mental health settings and has experience working with diverse populations, but has specialized in working with individuals with addictive use disorders, medicated assisted treatment, domestic violence, criminal justice system, LGBTQIA+ community members, alternative lifestyles and alternative sexual relationships/practices.

Outside of her professional pursuits, Sara is deeply committed to pursuing her fitness journey in strength and aesthetic focused sports, is a lover of comedy clubs, a video game player, an experienced road tripper, and occasionally catches a local baseball or hockey game. More often than not, she can be found with a cup of coffee in hand providing lots of love and attention to her rescue pup. Despite not being born in North Carolina she is proud to call it home.
