Ann is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate. She received her Master’s degree in Social Work from Fayetteville State University with a concentration in Mental Health, and certification in Substance Abuse Studies.  She received her Bachelor’s of Science degree from Michigan State University in Psychology. She gained her graduate level experience interning at both a substance use clinic, and in the Geriatric ward at the Veteran’s hospital.

Ann’s clinical level experience has come from training in the following Evidence-Based Practices: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), the Matrix Model, and Seeking Safety. Ann prefers the strengths based modality which correctly emphasizes any positive effort, resource, and/or positive coping mechanisms which lead to empowerment and a better sense of self.

While interning she has conducted biopsychosocial assessments, facilitated SUD groups and worked with geriatric populations. She was part of an interdisciplinary (IDC) group which screened potential patients for admission, initiated assessments, conducted rounds, coordinated outpatient services as patients became discharged from the medical center, and then concluded with follow-up of discharged patients.

Ann has experience facilitating groups for both inpatient and outpatient clients. The outpatient experience includes the Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient Program (SAIOP), and the Basic Outpatient Substance Abuse Treatment Program.

Ann values the idea of guiding clients toward becoming more confident in their abilities to optimally function on their own. She realizes the significance of using patient first language—the person comes first then the illness. In working with varying populations Ann has learned that clients will come around when their time is right.
