Rick is a Nationally Certified Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist, Clinical Supervisor Intern and an Advanced Alcohol and Drug Addictions Counselor. After 15 years in military service, Rick went on to earn his baccalaureate degree in Psychology from Methodist University and his Master's degree in Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Although no longer in the military, Rick believes that service to the community has many forms and is worth pursuing in any chapter of our lives.

Rick believes honesty, trust, compassion, dedication, and empathy are the cornerstones of a reliable and effective therapeutic relationship. In Rick's view, the helping profession must predicate on reflective work, goal setting, and developing client empowerment to overcome the challenges life presents them to the end of becoming more capable and self-sufficient in the future. As part of his advanced training, Rick has been fortunate to work with a broad and inclusive community representation, including adolescents, young adults, middle age, couples, senior clients, LGBTQA+ community, and veterans.

Rick has dedicated a large portion of his training to Trauma treatment (including sexual and military) and addictions. Rick understands that life's situations are not isolated and do not occur "in a bubble," making it often hard for clients to address problems by themselves. Complex problems require holistic and comprehensive solutions, which is why Rick often applies a Biopsychosocial focus to treatment applying evidence-based approaches, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, and mindfulness as determined by the client's needs.

Rick is an EMDR trained therapist (EMDRIA)
